A report of smoke in the area turned out to be a working garage fire on East Chestnut Street in Hanover Borough Tuesday evening. Firefighters battled the 2nd alarm fire in heavy smoke conditions.

A well involved barn fire was fought by several departments from two states ( Pennsylvania and Maryland) Friday night. The barn was approximately 30×50′ in size. Photos by Derrick Potts and Joe Carter

A working fire assignment operated this morning before daylight at the IWM International (the old Hanover Wire Cloth) building at 500 West Middle Street in Hanover Borough. A large collection of dust consisting of wire shavings and coating burned on the steel beams throughout the one section of the commercial building.

Hanover and Penn Township firefighters stretch lines after arriving to 651 Broadway in Hanover Borough to a working fire in an abandoned house, The crew of Truck 46 made entry and immediately a fireman fell through a floor causing the May Day to be called. The uninjured fireman was quickly located in the basement and was assisted out of the structure. Crews from York and Adams County battled the fire. The fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes. Photo submitted

It is not every day firefighters get the opportunity to train on a commercial building where roofs and floors can be cut as well as breaching walls can be done. The Hanover Fire Department has just that opportunity and they, along with neighboring departments have been taking advantage of this good fortune few times a week for several weeks now. Tonight, Hanover, Penn Township and Pleasant Hill all participated in the training.

York County Box 46-05 was struck for a structure fire at 215 Carlisle Street ( Niki’s Sports Nook ) in Hanover Borough Monday evening at 20:58 hrs.. Engine 46-1 arrived to heavy fire showing from a two story apartment to the rear of 217 Carlisle Street. The engine companies made fast work of this fire, and considering the exposures were an occupied apartment building, and another house, great work was done to prevent the extension of this fire. Hanover was assisted by Penn Township, Pleasant Hill, and United Hook and Ladder, along with Penn Township EMS. The Hanover Police and Fire Departments are investigating the cause.
