Fatal House Fire In Gettysburg


Shortly before lunchtime today Gettysburg Fire Department along with surrounding mutual aid departments were dispatched to Roberta Way in Cumberland Township for a house fire with people trapped. Cumberland Township Police Officers and Adams Regional EMS arrived finding the front of the house involved with fire and an occupant jumping from the front window. It was learned there was a second victim, after completing a 360 of the house, they were able to determine the 2nd victim was trapped in the rear porch. After several attempts to rescue the victim, Police and EMS was driven back from the smoke. Gettysburg Firefighters arrived a short time later and were able to pull the victim, however sadly the 2nd victim had succumbed. The 1st occupant was flown to the burn unit. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 30 minutes.

Car off Roadway

Gettysburg Fire Department and AREMS responded to Fairfield Road and Woodcrest Drive for an auto accident with entrapment. Units arrived to find 1 car off the roadway into a ditch, with confinment. AREMS provided patient care, and GFD extinguished a small fire with a fire extinguisher.

Units of scene: Rescue 1, Medic 54-1 & 54-3, Chief 54, Cumberland Twp Police and Fire Police. Chief 1 (Shank) had command.

Car versus Tractor Trailer

An Auto Accident with Entrapment Assignment was sent to Box 22-3 the 2400 blk of Baltimore Pike (south of Gettysburg) for Car versus Tractor Trailer. Units arrived to find 1 patient,  no entrapment.

Units on the scene: Rescue 22, Rescue 1, Medic 54-3, Chief 54, 20A and Fire Police. Deputy Chief 22 (Hubbard) had command.
